Handling Poker Stacks Properly
If you are new to Poker, regardless of the variant of the game that you will play, it is important that you learn how to manage your chips. Players usually go to extremes when it comes to handling them, so you must know how to strike a good balance.
The way that you manage your Poker chips will depend to an extent on whether you are playing in a cash game or in a tourney.
In a tourney, it is extremely important that you handle your Poker chips well. Because they are irreplaceable and the means by which you can play on, you will have to take care of them well. It is only in the latter stages of a tournament should you be aggressive and letting go of your chips.
In cash games, the way you handle Poker chips should be quite different. It should be in accordance with the kind of table opponents that you are in. if they are tight, then you should be willing to push more of your chips down the middle. Most of the time, the other players will fold, and thus give you an easy way to add to your stack.
If your Poker opponents are loose, then the strategy to adopt will be to just let the others fight it out. You should avoid raising your chips, unless you hold the nuts, because they will be called or re raised. Just wait for the big hand and use your chips then.
When it comes to bets, it is always important to think one step ahead. If you place a small bet, will you have enough chips to make another raise if it is called? In most instances, it will be better off if you go all in.
If your stacks are too low, then you will get blinded out anyway, so it is important that you go all in. Although there are risks, a lot of players, unless they hold big hands, will be hesitant to go against individuals who push all their chips in the middle.
As you can see, the way that you play Poker chips will be determined by the games that you are going to play. Always try to keep in mind that you cannot be too overly cautious but neither should you be too aggressive. By keeping the methods mentioned above, and through continued play, you will become adept at handling Poker chips.
